Capture
Capture means to remove from the board stones which have no remaining liberties, according to the rule of capture. Captured stones are called prisoners or captives.
The English term "capture" (and Japanese toru) can also refer to immobilizing a stone, such as in a ladder, loose ladder, or geta, or killing stones, making them dead (dead stones). See killing versus capturing.
Capturing-related tactical situations:
- capture two, recapture one
- sending two, returning one
- capture three, recapture one and capture three to make an eye
- capturing races
- semedori
See capturing techniques for an exhaustive path.
