Diagonal attachment

W1 is the diagonal attachment - a diagonal move which attaches to a knight's check. There are a number of follow-ups to the diagonal attachment.

Lexical Notes

The Japanese term kosumi-tsuke is structurally identical to the English diagonal attachment, with kosumi=diagonal move and tsuke=attachment.

This move is also known as a “kick” or “diagonal contact play”.
