Igo Daijiten

    Keywords: Joseki, Books & Publications

Igo Daijiten (囲碁大辞典, The Great Joseki Dictionary) is a joseki encyclopaedia containing about 20,000 diagrams, first compiled and edited by Suzuki Tamejiro and his pupils. It was published in 1933 by Shinkosha, a predecessor of Seibundo Shinkosha.

Editions:

  • 1933: First edition, in three large sized volumes
  • 1957: Revised edition
  • 1977: New edition (最新囲碁大辞典)
  • 1980: Paperback edition (普及版 囲碁大辞典), same content as above in six volumes

As a derivative work, later the Suzuki-Kitani Small Joseki Dictionary (定石小辞典 joseki-shojiten) of 6,000 variations was published in 1966 (which is supposedly more like the working knowledge of joseki of a pro player).
