I'm a retired mathematics professor. I live in the western part of Massachusetts, USA. I have published numerous translations from Japanese into English in the American Go Journal. I am the compiler and translator of the two Slate and Shell books Masterpieces of Handicap Go Volume 1 and Volume 2. I am the translator of two series of articles in the American Go E-journal, "What's Wrong with that Move", a translation in installments of the book Joseki Hazure by Nakayama Noriyuki and "Questions from Actual Play", a translation in installments of the book Jissen ni Tsuyoku Naru 80 Dai by Haruyama Isamu with Kobori Keiji. I translated the book Magic on the First Line by the late Nakayama Noriyuki for Slate and Shell, published in 2010.

I rarely play in tournaments. My current playing strength is around AGA 5-Dan. To me, finding good moves is more important than winning.

My Shusaku number seems to be four: Shusaku--Shuho--Kita Fumiko--Shiratori Sumiko--Bob

As practice for me in making diagrams, here is a life-and-death problem I like because it is a shape that could occur in an actual game. It has a lot of variations to read out. It was composed by Fujisawa Hideyuki around 1944.
