Beginner Exercises

In this section, beginners can exercise the basic tactical concepts of life and death, capturing race, and cutting/connecting groups.

These were compiled by many contributors and the difficulty varies - not always at true beginner level. If you find it difficult to solve mentally, use actual board and stones (especially before posting a question).

Questions are welcome, but please don't clutter Solution pages - instead, click "Discuss page" at the top of Exercise or Solution pages. Questions may also be posted at the Big Question Mark.

Like any other life and death problems, here we apply the usual conventions in life and death.
