Name

Her name is not always transcribed consistently. It is pronounced IPA: /hʌ sʌ hjʌn/, where all vowels are /ʌ/, similar to the vowel in the English word sun. Spellings like Heo Seo-hyeon or Huh Suhhyun are internally consistent, representing the same vowel with the same Latin letters, while “Heo Suhhyun” and “Heo Seohyun” (as spelled on Go Ratings and Go4Go are not.

Her given name Seo-hyeon means a precious or auspicious person, literally “precious jade”.

Go career

Heo first learned Baduk when she was 7, at her parents' recommendation. She played in the 2021 IBK Cup and 2022 Hoban Cup. Her first title win was the 3rd Hyorim Cup Future Empress Tournament on 11 Sep 2024, for female players born after 2002, beating Yoon Ra-eun 1p in the final. In the semifinal, she beat prodigy Nakamura Sumire for the first time on 9 Sep, after losing their previous 3 official games.

On the [ext] world ranking list, Heo is ranked #27 female and #410 overall in the world, and #8 female in Korea (as of 26 Sep 2024)
