Fernando Aguilar
Fernando Aguilar (b. 1959), Argentinian amateur 6-dan player. Has represented South America in the Fujitsu Cup on several occasions, although losing in the first round each time. In October 2001 he won the 3rd Iberoamerican Go Championship to qualify for the 1st Toyota & Denso Cup, where he caused an upset. He defeated Hasegawa Sunao 9-dan, one of the Kansai Ki-in's top players, in the first round on March 19th 2002. In the second round, on September 2nd 2002, he then beat Yo Kagen 9 dan.
On 2008, he placed 3rd on the WAGC (results here). He also played in the 2010 WAGC, placing 13th.
Aguilar has written an interesting account of his 19 March 2002 game against Hasegawa (in Spanish).

He has won the Internet Iberoamerican Tournament 4 times (2001,2002,2004,2005).
Arno: I talked to Fernando the other day and he said that the key to his improvement was studying books and playing international tournaments. He said that it is essential to play tournaments in order to become stronger, as only there everyone is trying to give his/her best.
