Yao Zhiteng
Yao Zhiteng (姚 智騰, Japanese reading: Yō Chitō. b. 31 January 1998) is a Japanese, professional 6-dan of the Nihon Kiin.
Yao was a former Taiwanese amateur 7d. In 2009[1], he scored 13–3 in a Taiwanese promotion tournament, earning promotion to professional status. However, Yao declined the promotion and chose to go to Japan to become an Insei at the Nihon Ki-in. In 2012[2], Yao gained the professional status of the Nihon Ki-in (the 25th Taiwanese to do so). Promoted 2 dan in 2013-11-28 (30 wins as 1 dan).
At the end of 2012, Yao played his first two games—winning against Tsuneishi Takashi 1d in his first game and losing to Son Makoto 2d in his second. In 2013, he started the year with a nine game winning streak, playing against many higher ranked players (including two 9-dans). After two losses, he started a new row of 12 wins, winning against Cho Chikun, Kobayashi Koichi, and another 9-dan. In 2013, he played 39 official games, with 31 wins, 8 losses.
In 2013 he gained a place in the Japanese Team in the 15th Nongshim Cup, beating Ichiriki Ryo in a playoff.
He was the runner up in the 2023 Shinjin O, losing to Ueno Asami 5p.
