Motoki Katsuya
Motoki Katsuya (本木 克弥; born August 2, 1995) is a Nihon Ki-in professional. Shodan in 2011. Pupil of Fujisawa Kazunari. 7 dan in 2015 for entering the Honinbo league, 8 dan in 2017 for challenging for the Honinbo title.
2014: Winner of the Wakagoi (over Mutsuura Yuta)
2016: Runner up in the Wakagoi (to Ichiriki Ryo)
In 2017, he became the Honinbo challenger to Iyama Yuta with a 6:1 score in the league. [1] He lost the match 4-0.
This was the eleventh time that a Honinbo match had been decided by this one sided result, the fourth since 1974, and the only time in the twenty years since Cho Chikun's 1997 defence against Kato Masao. However, the Kisei had been won 4-0 by Iyama the year before, against Yamashita Keigo, so this result wasn't as out of the ordinary as it might appear.
2018: Runner up in the Ryusei (again to Ichiriki Ryo).
Despite having been barely visible in 2021, he still made ¥11,285,600 in prize money, the tenth most of Japanese professionals in that year.
