Stand-up. An extension away from the edge of the board in response to a side attachment.

W2 stands up against the butting play B1. This is the normal counter, resulting in a local loss of influence for Black.

W2 stands up in response to Black's attachment at B1. This is a normal situation when White has approached Black's corner stone on the star point and Black also has a pincer in place. This position often occurs in handicap games.
