In this case, white is alive (by oshitsubushi if black tries to make it ko) as long as there are two external liberties. I saw two low kyu players miss this in a game the other night-- where can we add this information?

Ah, I see. It's ko with one or no outside liberty. (Actually, that's what ended up happening in the game I saw that inspired this!)

Yes, the condition is "can be reduced to bent four whenever the attacker wants", not "is reduced to bent four". If the attacker has to make the bent four shape before the end of the game, it is just ko, resp. alive if there are enough outside liberties.
