I think that White 2 is a false tesuji, since black will not play 5 where indicated in the diagram, but rather right below 1.

You missed a stone in the diagram: White already has a stone below . Yes, with 4 stones in a nest, Black can get out, but not if the nest has some overhanging stones, for example this one.
