This tournament was first held in March 2010 in Hangzhou (China) and 16 pairs competed.
Geographic entries were: Japan (2 pairs), China (2 pairs), Korea (2 pairs), Taiwan (2 pairs), Singapore, Malaysia, Russia, Czech Republic, the United States, Mexico, Australia and South Africa. Prizes: Champion 4 million yen; Runner-up: 2 million yen, third place 1,2 million yen, fourth Place 800,000 yen.
Final game: Song Ronghui & Xie He beat W+R after 238 moves Lee Minjin & Mok Jinseok

Tokyo 2016 - 2019
Also held from 2016 to 2019 in Tokyo, Japan with different formats:
- 2016 Final:Ke Jie & Yu Zhiying beat Chen Shiyuan & Hei Jiajia.
- 2017 Held under the new name "World Pair Go Strongest". Defending champion pair was challenged by the tournament winning pair: Ke Jie & Yu Zhiying beat Iyama Yuta & Xie Yimin.
- 2018 Park Junghwan & Choi Jeong beat the defending champion pair.
- 2019 The defending pair prevailed over the challengers Shin Jinseo & Oh Yujin
