Liu Dihuai
Liu Dihuai (刘棣怀 1897-1979) A top Chinese player after the Second World War, editor of Weiqi magazine, one of the teachers of Chen Zude.
Liu Dihuai and Guo Tisheng were collectively known as "South Liu North Guo" as they were the strongest professional go players from the Republic period to the early People's Republic period.
Winner of the National Go Individual in 1958 and 1959, 3rd in 1957 and 5th in 1960. Member of the Chinese Team in the first Japan-China Goodwill Exchanges 1960, he won a game against Segawa Yoshio, losing two (China scored only 2 wins while playing Black with no komi in all games). In 1961, he lost badly to Ito Tomoe who killed a large group; but she defeated all eight of her opponents in that match.
Liu was the teacher of China’s first 9p, Chen Zude.
