Japan-China Go Exchange

(日中囲碁交流) Each year from 1960 to 1966, Japan and China alternately sent a Go team to the other to play games against comparable opponents. The team typically consisted of 5 to 8 players and one captain (playing or non-playing), sometimes including top amateurs. These were series of one-off games and not official tournaments with pre-set format. After interruption due to the Cultural Revolution in China, the event restarted in 1973 and continued to 1992. The importance of this event diminished in the late 1980s when many official international tournaments were created.
