Velobici: How would one translate the phrase 只此一手? Only this move? It appears as a proverb. The same typographic treatment is given to the Chinese phrase for in a symmetrical position, play the symmetric point?. It comes from the text beside the solution diagram for problem 2 of QiJing ZhongMiao from the 世界围棋死活经典名着 edition.
Velobici: Thank you unkx80. These two have been added to the Useful Phrases in Other Languages page under the Mandarin section. That page is being used/abused as a depot till a number of these have acculumated. I have a couple more, if you dont mind: 接不归, 胀牯牛, and 松带钩.
The table of contents of the Chinese Aprilf 2004 edition of QiJingZhongMiao has been added to that web page. Could you add the English translation? Thanks in advance.
接不归 is connect-and-die, 胀牯牛 is oshitsubushi (is there an English term for this?).
带钩 is long L-group. 宽 and 紧 are two adjectives that refer to "loose" and "tight" respectively, almost always used in the liberties sense when applied to Go. Thus, 宽带钩 is long L-group with outside liberties, and 紧带钩 is long L-group without outside liberties.
接不归 is connect-and-die, 胀牯牛 is oshitsubushi (is there an English term for this?).
tderz: The GoPlayersAlmanac gives: "Squashing, crushing; a pinning move."
Thanks. But I don't like this translation. Because if I say "this is a squashing/crushing/pinning move", I suppose nobody will understand what I am talking about.
Few people would give/provide/present an explanation with all synonyms present. Reading the meaning of "Sqashing" in my mother tongue, I find it is a very good one-word explanation.
If more words are allowed, I'd suggest:
"Making life by sqashing opponents stones, such that their connection is prevented the suicide rule, thereby preventing death by nakade" which is somewhat longer. (tderz)
Velobici: Thank you very much. I have added these to the referenced pages.
胀牯牛...I keep wondering what oshitsubushi has to do with a cow (牛). Cant see the connection. Can you explain it.
Another question ;)
We have 镇神头 (鎮神頭) zhen4 shen2 tou2 - dual ladder breaker on the Chinese Go Terms page, but dont have ladder breaker. Could you add the Chinese for ladder breaker?
Thanks, Velobici
Could you add terms for two space extension and five space extension, please?
