ilan: Like I said in my Ilan / Book Recommendations, this is one of my favourite books. It seemed a lot easier than the equally rated (1, 2, 3, dan) Life and Death book by Norio Kudou (number 9 in the series) and much more useful.

After 2 years, I finally realised that the book has a difficulty rating for each problem: On the left side of the problem page there is a grey area which gives on top a rating for solving the problem quickly, e.g., 1 minute -> 1 dan, and below for solving it more slowly, e.g., 3 minutes -> 2 kyu. This feature is not found in many of the other books in the series.
