Tribute to her daughter Ōsuka Seira

Ōsawa Maya [ext] made a touching tribute to her late daughter Ōsuka Seira on Twitter:

On June 7, 2025, my second daughter, Ōsuka Seira, passed away. She was 21 years old. I am filled with gratitude for all the people who have watched over her since she was little. The funeral was held privately with just our family, and we were able to send her off peacefully. I resumed work last Friday, and while I am gradually returning to daily life, I am doing relatively well.

I have many irreplaceable memories with Seira, and it feels as if she is always with me in my heart, so strangely enough, I don’t feel lonely. It has been a truly happy time to have spent those days together with Seira in the Go world, and to have so many people know about her.

To everyone who sent messages, flowers, and telegrams, to the family and friends who immediately came to be with us and brought smiles to our faces, and to the kind people who have always been involved with our family and connected with us heart to heart—I am saved every day by your presence. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. It would make me happy if you would continue to interact with us just as you always have.

This is a letter Seira gave me on Mother’s Day when she was in elementary school. Every time I look at it, it makes me smile—it’s a treasure I will cherish for the rest of my life.

(It says: To Mama forever (in Japanese), Love (in English), heart (drawing). Even in elementary school, Seira knew how to write “Love” in English, and she a multi-alphabet love letter to her mother on Mothers’ day: It combined Kanji, Katakana, Hiragana, and English, and artwork, showing her love and gratitude from an early age.
