Niu Xian-Xian

(牛 娴娴, b. 1964) Chinese 5 dan professional. She is married to Michael Redmond 9 dan. They met at a Go event when she visited Japan to see her older sister Niu Lili. They have two daughters, Yumi and Emi. Within their family, they talk in Japanese.

She and her husband are now living in Chiba City. Her older sister, Niu Li Li was Go Seigen’s amanuensis for many years. Niu Xian-Xian is thus the aunt of Nyu Eiko, Li Li’s daughter. Both sisters played and promoted Go in their native Heilongjiang Province, but both moved to Japan for Go study decades ago.
