Kanto Student Go Association
Kanto Student Go Association (KSGA) is a student organization formed by university go clubs in the Kanto region (the region including Tokyo). Waseda University Go Club and others have KSGA membership.
KSGA official games
Individual games
KSGA holds regional preliminaries for the Female Student Honinbo (at the Shinjuku Go Center), All Japan Students Go Oza Championship (championship to determine representatives for the World Students Go Oza Championship) and others. Usually the Nihon Ki-in is used for these games.
All games require appointments and payments. Players who were absent without specific reason will be banned from all KSGA individual games for one year.
Team competitions
Attendance is required to maintain KSGA membership. The competition is divided into several classes by team strength. The winner of the highest class will advance to the All Japan University Go Championship.
KSGA supported games
Kanto Student Go Carnival
The Kanto Student Go Carnival (KSGC) is a friendship-match including high school students to graduate students. There is no upper-level tournament. "Carnival" is included in its name but it does not mean a dance party. KSGC is held in every March.
Kanto Student Pair Go Championship
This is held in March since 2005. It is known as one of the largest pair go competition in Tokyo.
B League
B League (Bachelor League) is a team competition for players who could not attend the official counterpart. All players are very serious because the winning team will get a chess clock or game boards. This game is held by the B League Administrative Commission (BLAC). BLAC is partially supported by KSGA but has independent finance and human resources.
High School Students Training Assembly
This assembly is a joint game with the Tokyo High School Go Association. This game aims to provide a training opportunity for Tokyo representatives to the High School Go Championship. It is held in every July.
Supervision Assembly
This assembly was originally proposed by Ogawa Tomoko. It aims to give Kanto area students to receive guidance from professional players. Okura Tokyo Go Salon was used for this event.
Online activities
PandaNet has a university student community. In the occasion of COVID-19, this place is frequently used for online Go exchanges.
KSGA responses to COVID-19
During the COVID-19 outbreak, KSGA has cancelled some games or converted to online style. Their first pair Go games in the pandemic have been held in October 2020, with limited top players and acrylic plates above the game boards (between players).
