Kamimura Kunio

(上村 邦夫, 1946-2004) Kamimura Kunio was a Nihon Ki-in professional, 9 dan in 1991. Died on June 25, 2004 from a lymphatic tumour.

Kamimura was a disciple of Kitani Minoru. Just a little older than the famous Kitani trio of Kato Masao, Ishida Yoshio and Takemiya Masaki, he never achieved their success, but he was widely respected for his ability and his insight. He was a superb game commentator, and a number of his commentaries have been published in Go World in recent years. His main success was entering the 14th Meijin league. His wife was the former women's amateur champion Tsutsumi Kayoko (堤加容子).
