Chang Fu Kang
Chang Fukang (曽富康, b. 30 January 2003) Nihon Ki-in professional; first and currently only professional from Malaysia. He qualified in November 2019 in the Winter Qualification Tournament, under the Foreigner Special Qualification rule, having scored nine wins and five losses, finishing fourth of sixteen players. Chan began his pro career in April 2020, and was promoted to 2 dan in January 2022.
Chang learnt Go as a preschooler in Shanghai. He studied the game in Japan from January 2019.
Fairbairn writes "He is from Malayasia, technically - he has a Malayasian father of Chinese heritage and a Chinese mother, plus he moved to China when he was 4. ... Chang's teacher is Hong Malk-eun Saem, who has already had tremendous success in getting his pupils into the pro ranks."
As an amateur he played in the World Youth Goe Championship U12 (2014) and U16 (2016), the 36th (2015) and 37th (2016) World Amateur Go Championships, and the Korean Prime Minister's Cup (2016). He also competed unsuccessfully in the 2014-15 CEGO Academic System tournament, losing to Jan Simara.
