The conflict between 2 ideas is just superficial, not fundamental.
The decision between forcing opp to center and confining opponent's stones to corner or sides, depends on specific whole board situation in consideration of efficiency of stones.
Oh, if I thought the advice on this page was flat out wrong, I would not have simply made an anonymous note of the contradiction. (In fact, when advice conflicts, that is an indication that the circumstances matter. On top of which, circumstances almost always matter in go. :-))
I see what you mean, but your statement may give an impression(misunderstanding) to beginners that one of 2 advices may be wrong (since it is stated that they conflict each other).
(personally, I have seen such misunderstanding is often aroused among beginners, sometimes even low kyus)
So, I think you should delete, or modify it.
I eliminated the beginner tag. I don't think it is a page for beginners, precisely because of the conflicting advice. I will clarify that I don't mean that the advice is dead wrong.
Buitenland: The advice that I have given in this page is described in detail in The Second Book Of Go Chapter Two: Handicap-Go Strategy.
