Symmetry

    Keywords: Go term

Positions with symmetric elements sometimes occur in games, typically in local areas, but occasionally globally. Such symmetric areas can exhibit reflectional symmetry or rotational symmetry, or both.

Symmetric positions can be aesthetically pleasing. As such, a fair number of composed tsumego problems have some form of symmetry. In many of these problems, the proverb play on the point of symmetry can be applied.

If the whole board is symmetric, it is almost always the result of mirror go.
