Shin Ryusei

    Keywords: Tournament

The Shin Ryusei or New Ryusei (officially the Sin Ryusei Sen, 新竜星戦) is a Japanese professional blitz tournament.

It was established in 2021, and first held on May 27.

The event is organised by the Igo-Shogi channel for its premium subscribers.

The name suggests a succession to the Ryusei tournament, but the Ryusei has not been cancelled.

Excerpted description by John Fairbairn, from the aforementioned thread.

... a KO with 32 players, leading to a best-of-three final. The participants will be 16 players from Ryusei final section, 8 past Ryusei champions, 6 players from winners and runners-up of 2020 women's events and/or past Women's Kisei winners, 2 recommendees by the Igo/Shogi Channel. Where more than the specified number of qualifiers exist, the most recent will be invited. ...

Time limits are 1 minute each with 5 seconds Fischer timing increments. ... these will not be classed as official games for promotions, and the declared intent is to produce spectacular upsets as exhibition games for the premium audience.
