Practical Endgame Test 5 / Attempts

White to play and win

(Diagram copied for your convenience.)

Arno: my try.

Arno's analysis

I argue that the a-c points are miai. Therefor White should start at one of the d points.

Arno's attempt

Dave: What if B4 is played at B5 instead? Is it jigo then?

Arno: yes, looks like it :-(

Arno's attempt (continued)

... and White wins by 1 point.

Arno's 2nd try:

2nd try

Bill: What if Black does not reply in the bottom left corner, but plays on the top side instead? E. g., B9 instead of B8.

Arno: if Black plays B8 at W9 then White answers with W9 at B8. Mutual damage. Eventually either Black answers on the lower left, or White connects to white+circle then answers Black's play at the top. In both cases W+1.

2nd try (continued)

Again W+1.
