White begins by forcing with 1 and 3. These both threaten to kill the black group below and Black is forced to answer at 2 and 4. White then eliminates Black's big play in the upper left by playing at 5. Black forces at 6 before playing 8 in the upper right (see Practical Endgame Test 2 / Book Solution - Black for further analysis of the upper left and upper right corners).

White plays 1 to force Black to connect at 2. Black 4 creates the same cutting point in the lower left that existed in the upper left. White 5 is played to prevent a black play here copying White 1 in the upper left. Black captures and connects in the upper left to end the game. White has to connect at a while Black has to connect at b. The result is a seven point win for White.
