Fuseki Exercise 10 / Solution

Sub-page of FusekiExercise10

i would play b to "break" between the 2 white influence groups.

Alex: Is this actually a "solution," or just an "attempt"? This goes contrary to what most people seemed to be agreeing on, on the FusekiExercise10/Attempts page and is unsigned.

grolich: It seems to me that "a" has to be the solution. I have to restate Alex's question: is this a "solution", or an attempt? I'd be very surprised if the solution was not "a" and would like to know the source of that problem.

Solution

kb: Indeed, a is the solution. This nullifies the influence of the very thick white+circle stones.

[Diagram]
Failure 1

kb: This B1 is the wrong direction. There is an open skirt around a, so this move is bad.

[Diagram]
Failure 2

kb: B1 here will be met with W2, utilizing the wall to the left. Furthermore, White has a move like a or b to look forward to, or even c.

On to Fuseki Exercise 11.
