Fujisawa

The name Fujisawa (藤沢) means wisteria marsh in Japanese. There are several professional go players with the surname Fujisawa, all in family relationship:

  • Fujisawa Hideyuki (9p), also known as Fujisawa Shuko, originally Fujisawa Tamotsu, honorary Kisei and winner of many other titles, notorious for his drinking and gambling habits.
  • Fujisawa Hosai (9p), originally Fujisawa Kuranosuke, first professional to reach 9 dan in the Oteai, only player to ever win a jubango against Go Seigen (However, Fujisawa took Black). Older nephew of Hideyuki.
  • Fujisawa Kazunari (8p), born 1964, son of Fujisawa Hideyuki and father of Fujisawa Rina.
  • Fujisawa Rina (7p), born 1998, granddaughter of Fujisawa Hideyuki. In 2010, broke record of the youngest promotion to professional shodan in Japan (11 years and 6 months). She was the top Japanese female player for several years, and now #2 (as of March 2024).
