Threat to live  

threatens to make life in the top left corner. prevents that, but then gains points in the top right corner.

Alternative play  

After , threatens to capture the Black stones in the corner, as does . preserves seki. Then prevents a Black point.

Failure  

Because of shortage of liberties fails. kills the top right corner. White can live in the top left, but Black wins big.
