W1 here can also seal the Black group in. B2 is a more passive reply.

B2 here is a probe. If W3 descends, then B4 can cut, aiming at the snapback at Black a, White b, Black c. If W3 leads to an unfavourable battle after B4, then W3 can consider playing at b instead.
