Tamsin: It's probably a good time to bring it to attention that in Japanese literature the phrase スモール中国流 (Small Chinese Style) is being used to refer to what we have been calling the Microchinese.
The current page seems to be about the Mini-Chinese, which adds to the confusion.
FWIW, I think "Microchinese" is a better name for the new pattern than "Small Chinese", since "micro" is smaller than "mini", while "small" itself is larger, in a native English-speaker`s mind, than "mini".
On the other hand, even if "Small Chinese" is not the best label, logically speaking, for the Micro-Chinese, it cannot be overlooked that this is what the Japanese professional community itself is calling the new pattern.
