"Discrimination" also means (finely tuned) _judgement_ about potentially anything, as well as the more popular modern usage associated with gender/age/race/... being used as a basis for treating people differently.
Adding "gender" to the title makes clearer what is intended.
Could the page be renamed to avoid this confusion?
I have the rename ability, and I'm happy to rename this to 'GenderDiscriminationInGo', if there isn't a ground swell of objection. I'm neutral about using either name, but I don't want to create discord.
The proposed name is certainly more exact than the existing name. But it's still not good. It presupposes that there is discrimination in the first place. That was the opinion of the person who started the article, but many people disagree - even to the point of making the case that there is reverse discrimination. If that article should ever make it from the current discussion format to a real article, it should be based on undisputed facts. The article itself starts with an uncontroversial fact; that "Women constitute about 50% of the population. Women are a much smaller portion of professional go players." That naturally invites a title like "Gender imbalance in Go", or simply "Gender in Go".
Perhaps "Is there Gender Descrimination in Go?" might be appropriate. This would allow us to focus this page on that one subject....the low rate of participation of females in Go. We could then move the material on relative gender strength, a separate topic but possible consequence of discrimination, to a separate page (perhaps ''Is Go Skill Gender Based?").
A page for "Sexism in Go" might we a useful addition as well.
We can split up this article. What happened to Rui Naiwei in Japan is unrelated to the main topic "Why are men so good at Go?". I would prefer sth like "Is sex a factor in go performance?"
Sorting out the profuse discussion into these two topics is a Herculean task; if you want to drive this effort, you deserve a lot of respect. For the time being, a generic title like "Gender in Go" should easily encompass both topics.
(On a minor note, it needs to be said for the record that the word "main" in your post is not backed up by facts. To the contrary, the main part of the article - everything from the top to the "updates" headline - is clearly about gender discrimination.)
I excluded the Rui Naiwei part and started to redo the rest as forum (it was discussion mode anyway) and it looks difficult to extract results here. Often the topics are hard to divide... still I think it is worth to try.
No objections to renaming the page from my side. Also if you dislike the result of my forum-ization of the page, please revive an older version.
Main topic "Why are men so good at Go?" was no objection to rename the page as "Gender discrimination in Go" - it was my comment on how the discussion was conducted.
What are we going to do with the duplication of content on gender discrimination in go (where you put the new version of this intro) and discrimination in go, oh Velobici? I understand that you are very protective of all this, but do you need it twice? And don't you want to rethink your opinion just slightly due to new evidence?
Best Tapir
Well, dont remember why that page was created. Perhaps in an attempt to clean up the original page. Dont remember. There are certain "General Population" issues that are floated repeatedly but never added to the page. Perhaps we should finish this page before taking any action on the existing Discrimination in Go page.
