bugcat: please justify name change (2024-09-02 21:59) [#12489]

What is the reasoning for changing the name of this page from Kisei Go Seigen, the title of two decades standing?

I'm not stating that this name is a bad choice, but I don't see why it's better than the one we were using. The film was a joint Sino-Japanese production, so why is the Chinese half of that to be considered more definitive?

Let's remember that our article for the man himself is of Go Seigen, with Wu Qingyuan being the alias.

If you expect a name change to be of unclear or controversial merit, please ask for the opinions of others in a discussion thread before taking action.

Compare the conversation about the name of the Go Seigen / Wu Qingyuan Cup.

hnishy: Kisei Go Seigen was doubly mistaken (2024-09-03 00:24) [#12490]

"Kisei Go Seigen" was Japanese reading of the movie's planned Chinese title "棋圣 吴清源". Later the title dropped the first word. Of course it should be read in Chinese because it was produced in China, not co-produced.

Looks like I was mistaken about co-production due to the film starring a number of Japanese actors.

xela: How/when was the name changed anyway? (2024-09-04 03:42) [#12492]

Am I right in thinking that changing the page name is a librarian-only function, and there's no way to see from the page history who changed it or when? I can't see this one mentioned at Page name change requests.

Oh, wait, it looks like hnishy has blanked out the content of [ext] the old page, replacing it with an alias, and created a brand new (and better) page. So not technically a rename at all. In this case no harm done, but generally I'd prefer to do this sort of thing as a proper rename so that it's easier to see the history.

hnishy: not really "name change" (2024-09-04 03:53) [#12494]

It's simple - create a new page, move the content to it, and make the old one an alias to the new page.
