Hello! We're third-year students studying IT Automation Systems at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. We'd like to share our project with you, which we're currently working on. We propose a game on a looping board, which we believe is an original idea that will add diversity to the gameplay. In addition to this feature, we also offer a cube and a sphere, so we guarantee that this game won't get boring quickly! Currently, it's a preliminary version of the game. We're sending you a link to the game; for now, it's only playable locally, but we plan to expand it further and create a multiplayer gaming platform. We're interested in your feedback, so please let us know what you think!
Controls:
G - toggle menu
LMB - place stone
RMB - move camera / rotate
MMB - remove stone
Scroll - zoom (only works for looping board)
Q - switch player
Looks nice! Your looping board seems to be what is known as Toroidal Go
Yes indeed, the "Looping" variant seems to be an implementation of Toroidal Go. It's a pity there's no clear visual indication of how large the board is. I prefer implementations where the background colour changes.
The “Cube” is something different; it's the “chamfered cube” variant described in Edgeless Go. It's quite different from Toroidal Go because of the layout of the corners where there are three adjacent points that form a sort of triangle. The board is not “locally grid”, using some terminology from mathematics.
I think it would make sense to have smaller cubes, like the 5- and 7- cube. The 19-cube with 6*361 = 2166 intersections seems to be far too big for casual games. And the 9-cube has 486 intersections so it's significantly bigger than the standard 19x19 board.
The “sphere” variant didn't work for me, using Firefox.
The above comment was by me BTW. I didn't notice I wasn't logged in. Sorry.
And what I also should have said was, I think the cube is really promising. Good work, well done!
I made a post in a Facebook group about this.
Dieter moved this topic on 2024-04-24 and I wonder if the OP know about that. Maybe they don't know about the recent changes page and are wondering why their discussion isn't where they left it. Or, maybe the URL has stayed the same? I don't know.
If I were to quibble, this would be better IMO as a talk page of edgeless go rather than of toroidal go.
In any case it would be good to hear from the OP about their plans - any chance of 5-cubes? What's with the sphere not working? etc.
Sorry again, that was me commenting and failing to see I wasn't logged in - again.
We have published an update with UI and sphere gameboard http://ec2-54-194-134-202.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com/GoNoJutsu/
We didn't reply because we were busy with our studies. Regarding the sphere board, we forgot to mention that it is in progress, and as for the size of the board, it's not a problem to implement a 5x5 or 7x7 cube board. Currently, we are also working on a new UI.
