Elroch: Not sure what the Japanese and other terms translate as, but "shared liberties" would appear to be a much more natural name for this concept. "Inside liberties" is a term that would seem appropriate for liberties in an eye. As usual, there is not the slightest hope of changing established terminology :-)

Some English go terms are well established, but many are not. English go literature is still in its infancy. Mutual or shared liberty is clear, inside liberty is ambiguous, as you point out. In time, inside liberty may fall into disuse. :-)
