Tempo Four

The Tempo Top Four (天保四傑 Tenpō Shiketsu)

The Tempo Top Four, Ito Showa, Ota Yuzo, Yasui Sanchi, and Sakaguchi Sentoku, were the closest rivals (all 7 dans) of Shuwa (8 dan in 1850), who was the top active player along with the old Gennan Inseki during the late Tempo era in Japan (1839–1844) and up to his death in 1873.
