Sacrifice Stones

    Keywords: Go term

Sacrifice stones (捨て石 suteishi in Japanese)[1] are stones which are sacrificed, in particular stones which are played with the intention of sacrificing them.

It is a big deal, especially in the middle game, to be able to distinguish between key stones, which for strategic reasons are not to be sacrificed (for example important cutting stones), and disposable stones, which will include some kikashi stones but are certainly not limited to those.

[1] Suteishi comes from suteru which means to discard, abandon or throw away and ishi which means stone.
