Non-Symmetric Problem 2 / Solution

[Diagram]
Solution: ko

Dieter: It's ko.

Robert Pauli: Right.

[Diagram]
W's failure: dead

The symmetric W1 is wrong.

Robert Pauli: Indeed.

[Diagram]
B's failure #1: life

Miai for life: B2 is wrong.

[Diagram]
B's failure #2: life

Miai for life: B2 is wrong again.

Notice the importance of the marked stone.

Robert Pauli: Can't remember these ones . . .

Dieter: If the marked stone isn't there, Black can play b for White a, cut and force White to fill his second eye before she can capture the three stones.

Robert Pauli: Yes, and the other line isn't bad either (DGoZ 3/03, problem 5, by the way):

B's failure #2, continued

As ugly W4 might be, it wins White the capturing race. Bamboo with W4 wouldn't.
