Nihon Igo Senshuken Te'awase

Nihon Igo Senshuken Te'awase (日本囲碁選手権手合, Japan Go Championship Games) was a Japanese tournament held in 1933, which led to the famous clash between Go Seigen and Honinbo Shusai. It was a 16-player single elimination tournament using the old Match Handicap System. Go Seigen beat Kitani Minoru in the semifinal and Hashimoto Utaro in the final, winning the right to challenge Shusai, the last lifetime Meijin.
