. What is true.
. Is there a difference between Chinese and Japanese rules.
kmr - For JP rules white stones are dead and black has 5 points in area. For CHN rules white stones are dead and black has 4 points (since CHN rules are area scoring and not territory, white dead stones are worth 0 points, so black has 4 points a,b,c,d). Black has to play "d" only when ruleset has either flaw or it was intended to do. In some ver of JPN rules some experts argue that black must capture (thus only 4 points for him), otherwise all stones are alive (white 2 stones are then in seki, and "d" is dame), but other experts disagree. In CHN rules, black might as well capture since playing in own territory in CHN rules does not cost anything except tempo and liberty).
