85.176.139.42: aligning inlined pictures is tricky (2006-11-23 02:59) [#2440]

From my test area, picture align test (by RueLue)

(Quote from TextFormattingRules:)

  • URLs to images, ending with .png, .gif, .jpg, are inlined if put in square brackets. See HowToAddImages.
  • To left- or right-align an inlined picture, filename must end in resp. -alignleft or -alignright, followed by the extension.

... For example: [http://senseis.xmp.net/images/stone-happy-alignright.png]
http://senseis.xmp.net/images/stone-happy-alignleft.png http://senseis.xmp.net/images/stone-happy-alignright.png

it seems tricky: preview doesn't show images; and saved it doesn't show pictures either. Instead (in Firefox) it shows the link as text only, impossible to copy('n'paste)! (IE shows broken links)
normal pictures are ok:
jpg align ok (the go board) http://senseis.xmp.net/images/goban-alignright.jpg
jpg normal ok (ice bear) http://users.pandora.be/dual/go/SL/eisb.jpg
jpg align not ok (ice bear) http://users.pandora.be/dual/go/SL/eisb-alignright.jpg

png ok (stone-happy) http://senseis.xmp.net/images/stone-happy.png

png align not ok (stone-happy) http://senseis.xmp.net/images/stone-happy-alignright.png
gif ok (gtl) http://gtl.xmp.net/style/gtl.gif
gif align not ok (gtl) http://gtl.xmp.net/style/gtl-alignright.gif

Best wishes for solution! RueLue

That is sometimes confusing: aligning works only, if there is actually a picture with "-alignright" in the name. If there is no picture of this name, your browser shows a "broken link"-icon (or, in Firefox, the file name). -- RueLue

See the Picture Template, which solves this problem using the trick of adding ?alignright.jpg to the end of the URL (after the ? are HTTP query parameters, which will normally be ignored for pictures, but work for SL)
