It takes three moves for black to create just one eye.

Aren't there better moves for white? Like when he ignores the capture of the three stones at the top and captures the two black stones at the bottom.

This takes only one move so that way white has two free moves left to turn the black group into a dead shape.

Assuming this isn't possible, which are the two miai intersections?

(7 at 1)

You mean this W6? Then B7 captures at B1, capture three to make an eye.

Thanks for your reply. I was actually thinking of something like playing stone 4 above stone 3 to try to deny black his second eye.

[Diagram]
white captures two, black captures three

zinger: Like this? Now B7 captures W2.

resulting position

zinger: The position looks like this now. Black is alive with eyes at a and W2. This is worse for white than the solution.

Yes it looks so.

Trying to defend 2 with a ko by placing a stone above 7 doesn't work because a black stone above 5 threatens to capture both 2 and 4...
