Syusei is the Kunrei-Shiki romanization. Although recognized by ISO and ANSI, this system is not used anymore because it doesn't transcribe sounds correctly and is misleading for non-native speakers.

The Japanese government and 99% of all romanization use the Hepburn system.

Thus 秀生 should be shuusei or shūsei. Please change the page title and URL.

You are invited to improve.

This page was prepared without knowledge of Japanese. I just took the Nihon Ki-in profile and I have enough pattern recognition to understand the signs for the promotions, teacher/pupil relations and birthdates, the romanization is the one used by them.

I understand it is the same "Shū" / "Shuu" as in Shūsaku, Shūsai... by precedence I would change to Shusei Kumamoto, is that correct? In future, there is a page name change requests for similar issues.

Bob McGuigan: In Japan, customarily, names are written family name first, then given name. This pro's family name is Kumamoto and his given name is Shuusei, which would make it Kumamoto Shuusei. This also follows the order of the kanji when read left to right. On SL most of the time the romaji version of names follows the Japanese custom, as you did for Kumamoto's teacher and the new pages for Makihata Taeko, Nakamura Shinya, and Tajima Shingo. These are all Family name first. I think it is useful to follow the Japanese custom and write the family name first, contrary to the Wikipedia practice, because it helps in recognizing the kanji used in names of other people.
