It should be added that the situation is not quite as simple as that of a normal net. W can play like this, which wouldn't be possible in a normal net:

Don't forget this. It is a loose ladder and captures as well (well the distinction between loose ladder and net is somewhat shaky when it is so short), but at least this is what comes to my mind when somebody talks about capturing after the White cut by a ladder.
