MtnViewMark: New page didn't show up in Recent Changes (2008-12-29 08:05) [#5433]

I added a new page today (Dec-28th), Mathematics of Scoring to the wiki, but for some reason I don't see it listed in Recent Changes. I see other new pages.

I think I know why: After I created it, I made a "minor edit" to it. I think that somehow took it out of the recent changes list. Anyone want to confirm this bug?

Seems to me that this behaviour is by design, unless Arno says otherwise.

ArnoHollosi: intended behaviour (2008-12-30 17:46) [#5439]

Actually, this is the intended behaviour. See consecutive edits.

While editing a page a second time, there is also a text near the minor edit checkbox that reads:

Attention: the setting is also applied to your initial edit! You should keep major edits as major edits. (well, usually at least)

If I first edit a page it shows up in Recent Changes. If I then minor edit the page -- then the edit still shows up in the Recent Changes list -- it is only the minor edit that is hidden.

If I create a page it shows up in Recent Changes. If I then minor edit the page -- then both the page creation and the minor edit are now hidden.

I think this is a bug, not by design. I would expect that the page creation would continue to show in Recent Changes and only the minor edit hidden.

Are you sure this is true?

ArnoHollosi: can't reproduce (2008-12-30 17:49) [#5440]

I cannot reproduce this. Can you give me an example?

Also, don't forget that depending on your RC preferences you may be shown minoredits on watched pages.

PeterHB: As designed, in my opinion (2008-12-29 19:49) [#5436]

Its worth looking at MinorEdit and ConsecutiveEdits.

I think the practicalities of creating the minor edit feature meant that when more than one edit is done in a day, all that day's edits go under the one edit group, minor or major. You can toggle it with subsequent edits in the same day, but your edit can't be in both states on the same day. As Arno created the feature, he will clearly know better, but it doesn't appear to be a bug to me. Arno does read the Bug Report, so he will think about the issue raised at some stage.
