Zarlan: First of all, I don't really think this is relevant enough, to be here (I recommend it though. It's quite good). Also, it's a manga ...of which an anime has been made ...which is crap in comparison. (also, it differs from Hikaru, in that it isn't nearly as newbie-friendly)

Hi Zarlan, first, there's a shogi page here. Second, as I said it might appeal to Hikaru fans. Third, it broadens the context for mind sports in Japan - you can see how many aspects of go seen in Hikago can be found here too. It interests me, as a go player, to see how similar promotion, training, professional and amateur conventions and structures exist in shogi - so, it's reasonable, I think, to assume some other go players might want to take a look at it too. That's why it belongs here.

I'd guessed there was a manga too, but I've not seen it anywhere.

Well, a Shogi page is one thing, a page about a Shogi manga, is something else altogether. Still, you have some good arguments, though I'm still not sure it is relevant enough.

As to the manga, it isn't being translated very quickly, but... [ext] http://www.hanashi.org/?q=node/19

Tamsin: I forgot to say, also, that it makes a good comparator for Hikaru. I think it's an example of Hikago's lasting influence - the anime uses many of the same techniques, such as 'wind' effects when players enter a difficult or crucial fight. I'd like to say something about the constant calling for deletion that goes on here, too: there are many pages I don't like very much, such as Great Moments in KGS Chat, which seems to be somewhat sparse in both greatness and in worthwhile content stretching for as long as a moment, but I don't mind its being here - it is fun for some, and it doesn't affect my usage of SL.

Zarlan: Re: case for (2008-02-24 23:37) [#4383]

Ah but, KGS is clearly related. Shion no Ou isn't as clearly related
As to the same techniques, that isn't true. Those aren't Hikaru no Go techniques, they are anime techniques (very common in sport anime).
Shion no Ou isn't really all that similar to Hikaru no Go IMO. Neither in how they follow their respective games, nor the rest of the story. Still, the Shion no Ou page doesn't really bother me, I just don't think it is relevant enough. Well, maybe enough to be mentioned, but a page?
But then, if my opinion gets rejected, that won't really trouble me.

tapir: Re: case for (2008-02-25 15:56) [#4391]

to add $0,02: there is no need to handle sl like wikipedia. a bit less rigidity might help everyone... there is much more won by a new question, new player page, new tsumego, new ... than by an argument about the relevance of this or another particular page. isn`t it?

Zarlan: Re: case for (2008-02-26 02:13) [#4401]

Sure. I just wanted to say that I personally find the relevance of this page, doubtful. I'm not saying that I think it should go, just that I'm not so sure. It's continued existence wouldn't really bother me.

But the fact that it is a manga (which has an anime based on it) is something I do indeed want to have the page changed to reflect. I might do it myself tomorrow, or in the near (or not so near) future
