Solution

a,b,and c are the stronger responses to W1.

Resistance 'a'

[Diagram]

If W1 W3 escapes, the remaining space isn't enough to create a seki.

continue

W7 captures the black stones by snapback.

Resistance 'b'

[Diagram]

After W3, Black can't get both x and y

Resistance 'c'

[Diagram]

After W5, White has x to escape or y to capture some black stones by snapback.

Capturing W5 W1 with B6 only delays the problem; W7 at W5 is good enough.

The purpose of B4 is to prevent the white chain with W3 from escaping. If B4 at x, W5 still works.

Failure

Compare with Resistance 'c' the extra stone at B6 allows Black to fight a ko.

Black captures everything.

For other W1, B2 suffices.
