Tas/Go Board With Levitating Stones

Sub-page of Tas

The picture shows a thin sheet of pyrolytic graphite levitating above four rare-earth magnets. I would like to take a hundred of such sets (that is twenty by twenty magnets) and set up in a square with 361 levitation spots. Then cut a lot of pyrolytic graphite into circles and colour half of them white in some way. Well you get the picture.

As the magnet here is about 12mm (½inch) across the whole setup would be about the size of a regular go board. Only problem is that i estimate a total price of about 1000 USD with the best supliers of pyrolytic graphite and magnets I've been able to find.

Tas: Well... do'h... It would only be half sized, a go grid is over 2cm per line. Of course one could use one-inch-magnets but then it gets even more expensive.

Daniel?: my estimate using 1" square magnets(1"x1"x1/8") and 1" sheets of graphite indicates a cost of $3,258.54 or if you were going to build a floor board (where I would suggest cube magnets) $13,978.50 (still cheaper than a $170,604.20 Hyuga Kaya floor board)

SiouxDenim I have a smaller version of the set-up shown. Unless you have a level table and a steady hand the graphite slides off. My guess is that you'd manage to balance a few 'stones', but then you'd add one more and watch them all go flying. The graphite breaks really easily, I'm not sure how you'd manage to colour it in.
