Shinan Senior International Baduk Cup

The 1004 Islands Shin-An International Senior Baduk Championship is an international seniors' (over 50) event organised by the KBA, held since 2019 (but not in 2020).

To quote John Power, The time allowance (in 2021) was just 30 minutes per player plus 30-second byo-yomi x 3; there were two rounds per day. ... First prize was 30 million won (about $25,000).

Results

1st

There was both a sixteen player knockout tournament and a team competition. See the Go to Everyone! section for more information.

The knockout was won by O Rissei, who defeated Yu Bin in the final.

In the team competition, China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan each fielded three players. Ironically, the Taiwanese team was comprised entirely of Japan-based professionals Rin Kaiho, O Rissei and O Meien. Japan's own team was made up of Takemiya, Kobayashi and Yoda; China's of Liu Xiaoguang, Rui Naiwei and Yu Bin; and Korea's of Yang, Seo and Yoo Changhyuk.

Korea beat Taiwan 3-0, and China beat Japan 3-0 as well. The rest of the matches were won by 2-1 margins. Japan's victory over Korea was especially close, relying on a half point victory by Kobayashi over Seo.

2nd

To quote the Power Report again, The tournament was held on the net on December 21 and 22. Reaching the final were Yoo Changhyuk of Korea and O Meien. The latter took the lead early in the game, but Yu pulled off a late upset and won by half a point.

3rd

Yoo Changhyuk won again, and O Meien was again the runner up. Despite each country being allowed to send one player under 50 but over 45, none of them reached the semifinals.

4th

Yu Bin again reached the final, this time winning by beating Yoda Norimoto.
